Little Elm High School Band

Zach Sherburn, a junior in the LEHS Band, was named the WINNER of the 2011 United States Marine Band Concerto Competition in Washington DC!  Performing a concerto on marimba, Zach was one of seven finalists from across the United States who were invited to Washinton DC to perform at John Philip Sousa Hall for the Finals Competition, held on Saturday, February 19th.  Zach has also recently placed, for the second consecutive year, in the Texas All-State Band.  After placing first in the 4A All-State Symphonic Band in 2010, he auditioned in the 5A track in 2011, placing in the Texas All-State Symphony Orchestra.  He has also placed in the 2011 Region 24 Honor Band and Symphony Orchestra.

As the winner of the concerto competition, Zach will appear as a guest soloist with the U.S. Marine Band at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 21 at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas, Va.  Congratulations Zach on this incredible accomplishment!

Congratulations to the following students who placed in the various All-Region Bands for Region 24. These students went through a rigorous audition process to earn a seat in these ensembles.

Will Kirchner (trumpet) – All-Region Jazz (Advanced to Area)

Zachary Sherburn (percussion) – 5A All-State Band, 5A All-Region Band, & All-Region Symphony Orchestra

Erick Larin (tenor saxophone) – 4A All-Region Band

Hawk Griffen (trumpet) – Freshman All-Region Band

Frankie Martinez (Bass Trombone) – Freshman All-Region Band

These students will be performing in the various All-Region Bands later this month. The All-Region Jazz Ensemble had its clinic/concert in December.

Zachary Sherburn received the highest honor given to a band member in the state of Texas, a place in the Texas 5A All-State Band. Zach placed first chair in the 4A All-State Band in 2010. He will rehearse and perform with the All-State Band at the TMEA Convention in February.
