Zachary Sherburn performs with “The President’s Own”

2011 US Marine Band Concerto Competition Winner, Zachary Sherburn

From over 100 applicants nationwide, LEHS Band student Zachary Sherburn was selected as one of seven semi-finalists of the 2011 United States Marine Band Concerto Competition. After competing against the six other semi-finalists last month in Washinton DC, Zach was announced as the Concerto Competition WINNER! On Thursday, April 21, Zachary Sherburn performed at the Hylton Performing Arts Center as the “GUEST ARTIST” with the US Marine Band. To put it mildly, it was an UNBELIEVABLE evening. In my 18 years of teaching, this performance was one of the most memorable and enjoyable I have ever experienced. Although friends and former students have performed with ensembles as prestigious as the US Marine Band after graduation or even after college, it was even more remarkable to witness a current high school junior accomplish such a feat. After a technically strenuous, yet remarkably musical performance, the Hylton Performing Arts Center erupted into what was a great standing ovation for Zach!

Congratulations to Zach for this remarkable accomplishment. A special thanks also to his private lesson instructor, Nathan Ratliff, and of course, his wonderfully supportive parents, Keith and Andrea Koppenhaver.

GoArts.org

At a time when education is undergoing many changes in our state and others, it is important that those of us that support the Arts be sure to register their support and continue to demand that the Arts be supported in all school districts.  This website is a great source for advocacy of the Arts. We are very fortunate in Little Elm ISD that we have great community and administrative support for the Arts.  Other school districts are sometimes not as fortunate.  Please visit GoArts.org and see how you can support the Arts in LEISD and across the state.
