The Wind Ensemble is the premier ensemble within the Little Elm High School Band Department. Membership is selective and is determined through auditions twice a year. All band members may audition for the Wind Ensemble at the end of the Spring semester, then again at the end of the Fall semester. Auditions focus on scales, etudes, sight-reading, as well as the tone quality and musicianship of the performer.
The Wind Ensemble performs frequently throughout the year, including the UIL Concert & Sight-reading Contest, as well as other events at the discretion of the director. Membership in the Wind Ensemble requires frequent before-school and after-school practices and performances. All students enrolled in Wind Ensemble meet daily from 8:30-9:40 am. In addition to the rehearsal schedule, Wind Ensemble members meet once a week for sectionals/masterclasses.
The Wind Ensemble has been awarded numerous UIL Superior Ratings, as well as Superior Ratings at other competitions. The focus of this ensemble is to expose band members to quality music or music of high artistic merit. Music from different time periods as well as various genres are performed, as well as standards of the wind band literature.
